My Experience
Let me remind you of my experience during an earthquake last week. When the earthquake happened, I was in my car. I was driving home from my vacation to Bali. Suddenly my car lurched to one side, to the left. I thought I got a flat tire. I did not know that it was an earthquake. I knew it was an earthquake when I saw some telephone and electricity poles falling down to the ground, like matchsticks. Then I saw a lot of rocks tumbling across the road. I was trapped by the rock. Even I could not move my car at all. There were rocks everywhere. There was nothing I could do but left the car and walked along the way to my house, in the town. When I reached my town, I was so surprised that there was almost nothing left. The earthquake made a lot of damage to my town. Although nothing was left, I thanked God that nobody was seriously injured.

Perkenankanlah aku menceritakan pada kalian pengalamanku pada waktu gempa bumi minggu kemarin. Ketika gempa bumi terjadi, aku sedang berada di dalam mobil. Aku sedang berkendara pulang dari liburan di Bali. Tiba-tiba mobilku oleng ke kiri. Ku kira rodaku kempes. Aku tidak tahu kalau ini gempa bumi. Aku tahu kalau ini gempa bumi ketika aku lihat tiang telepon dan tiang listrik berjatuhan ke tanah, seperti batang korek api. Kemudian kulihat banyak batu-batu bergulingan dijalan. Aku terjebak oleh batu. Aku tidak bisa menggerakkan mobilku sama sekali. Ada batu diman-mana. Tidak ada yang bisa kulakukan kecuali meninggalkan mobil dan berjalan menuju rumahku di kota. Ketika aku sampai di kota, aku terkejut bahwa hampir tidak ada yang tersisa. Gempa bumi membuat banyak kerusakan pada kotaku. Walaupun tidak ada yang tersisa, aku bersyukur pada Tuhan bahwa tidak ada seorang pun yang cidera serius.

Yesterday Nolan got up late. Usually, he gets up at 5 o’clock every morning. But this morning he got up at 6.35. Then he went to the bathroom and took a bath soon. After he took a bath at 6.45, he had breakfast. At 7.00, he had some bread and a glass of milk for his breakfast. When he got to the bus stop at 7.10, he missed a bus to school. So he went to school on foot. He ran fast. He arrived at school at 7.45. He was late for school. At 7.50 he entered his classroom. He knocked at the door and then he said to the teacher, “I’m sorry, Sir. I’m late”. Nolan’s teacher, Mr Rudolph asked, “Why do you come so late, Nolan?” “I got up at 6.35 this morning, Sir”, answered Nolan. “OK, sit down. But don’t come late again!” said Mr Rudolph. Thank you, Sir”, said Nolan. Nolan was happy because Mr Rudolph was not angry with him. However, he felt ashamed with all of his classmates. He promised he would not come late again.

Dear Traveller,
My name is Exa. I’m the second-grade student of Senior High School. Today, I’d like to tell you about my biggest journey when I spent my last semester break at North Sumatra and Lombok. It was my first time travelling by plane. Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts, it even breaks my heart. But that’s okay. The journey changes me; it should change me. It leaves marks on my memory, on my consciousness, on my heart, and on my body. I take something with me. Hopefully, I leave something good behind. That is why I love travelling which gives me lots of experiences about learning to live.
I spent my last semester break travelling to some places in Indonesia. Indonesia has many beautiful nature and cultures. A place has a different tradition itself. That makes Indonesia rich of cultures. I was very interested and so excited.
The first spot was North Sumatra which is located in Sumatra Island. There are lots of tourist attraction which more than 20 spots. I visited Lake Toba which is an awesome natural and beautiful lake. Lake Toba is the most famous lake in Indonesia because of its large size and uniqueness in the form of an island in the middle of Lake Toba. With a length of about 100 KM and a width of about 30 KM, Lake Toba is the largest volcanic lake in Southeast Asia. Lake Toba is the most famous tourist spot in North Sumatra, so I don’t need to worry if you want to stay at Lake Toba because along the banks of Lake Toba there are many inns. I spent 3 days at Lake Toba. It was awesome! Next trip, I visited Medan Grand Mosque which was built in 1906 with a mixed style between the Middle East, Spain and India. Located on Jalan Sisingamangaraja. It is part of North Sumatra history. I learned lots of historical value. One day at Medan Grand Mosque, I think it was enough. Next spot in North Sumatra, I went to Brastagi. Berastagi is one of the cities in North Sumatra that has a cool climate. The location is not far from the city of Medan. I took the Sinabung or Sutra bus which was cheap and could take me to various interesting places in Berastagi, such as Kubu Hill, Gundaling Hill, Lingga Village, Lake Lau Kawar, Sikulikap Waterfall, Two-Colored Waterfall, Sidebuk-debuk Bath, Funland Mickey Holiday, Karo Heritage Museum, Tongkoh Botanical Gardens. Oh my gosh! It was the best moment and lots of experiences in North Sumatra.
I flew 2,575.5 km to Lombok. Lombok Tourism has become a special attraction for both local and foreign tourists. The first trip to Lombok, I visited Senggigi Beach. Senggigi Beach is one of the tourist attractions in Lombok that is most visited by tourists which is located in the western part of Lombok Island, Senggigi Beach has calm waves so it is suitable for swimming and snorkelling. I loved it! It wasn’t perfect if I didn’t visit Mount Rinjani. Mount Rinjani is the most famous tourist icon as well as tourist attractions in Lombok. With a height of more than 3,700 meters, Mount Rinjani is the second-highest volcano in Indonesia. For adherents of Hinduism, Mount Rinjani has its own spiritual value because it is considered to be the abode of the gods. It was a spectacular experience in Lombok. I spent 2 weeks at Lombok.
Before I went back to school. I bought some souvenirs for each destination which were given to my best friends. Oh my gosh! It was an amazing life experience to travel in Indonesia.

Visiting My Village
Last month, I and my family went to Banyumas which was located in Central Java, Indonesia. We drove a car. I enjoyed the journey all day long although it took 2 days to get there. We were fun, my brother made some jokes all day. My father told us some stories on the way. My mother slept on the back seat.
My first day in my village, I visited my siblings and friends. We are welcomed with happiness. When I saw my parents, they cried because they looked so happy to meet up their families. The next day, I, my brother, my cousin and my nephew went to a popular place in Purwokerto. It was called “Baturaden”. That was a favorite spot in Purwokerto. We enjoyed local specialty food as culinary. I was satisfied and so were they. Next, I took a photo with traditional music musicians.
My brother, my cousin and my nephew enjoy the view with other visitors. They took a photo with their style as I did. In the evening, we were back home. And did other private activities, such as made a conversation, told the story and made a joke.
The day after tomorrow, my cousin had a ceremony to say thanks to God for blessing their son. It was called “Nazar”. When the parents had a promise for something and it was realized. They had to make a traditional ceremony. I watched that traditional ceremony and took their photograph.
For the last show, we were entertained by “Ebeg”. It was traditional art. The player danced through the traditional music and they were handled by the spirit. It was scary, but it was fun and entertaining.
Time run so fast because the next day was our last day in the village. So I took the last photo to bring it home. They were my family and still family until the last breath in this world.
Finally, we had to go home and brought a love experience from family. Yaps… that was the hardest part.

Hari pertama ku di desa, aku mengunjungi saudara dan teman-teman ku. Kami disambut oleh kebahagiaan. Ketika aku melihat orang tua ku, mereka menangis karena mereka tampak begitu senang bertemu dengan keluarga mereka. Keesokan harinya, aku, adik ku, sepupu ku dan keponakan ku pergi ke tempat yang populer di Purwokerto. Tempat itu disebut “Baturaden”. Itu adalah tempat favorit di Purwokerto. Kami menikmati makanan khas daerah sebagai kuliner. Saya merasa puas dan begitu pula mereka. Selanjutnya, saya mengambil foto dengan musisi musik tradisional.
Adikku, sepupu ku dan keponakan ku menikmati pemandangan dengan pengunjung lain. Mereka berfoto dengan gaya mereka, seperti yang kulakukan. Di sore hari, kami kembali ke rumah. Dan melakukan kegiatan pribadi yang lainnya, seperti berbincang, bercerita dan bercanda.
Lusa, sepupu saya memiliki upacara untuk mengucapkan terima kasih kepada Tuhan atas berkat anak mereka. Itu disebut dengan “Nazar”. Ketika orang tua memiliki janji terhadap sesuatu dan terkabulkan. Mereka harus merayakan upacara tradisional. Saya menyaksikan upacara tradisional itu dan mengambil foto mereka.
Untuk acara terakhir, kami dihibur oleh “Ebeg”. Itu adalah seni tradisional. Pemain menari melalui musik tradisional dan mereka dikendalikan oleh roh. Itu menakutkan, tapi itu menyenangkan dan menghibur.
Waktu berjalan begitu cepat, karena hari berikutnya adalah hari terakhir kami di desa. Jadi saya mengambil foto terakhir untuk membawanya pulang. Mereka keluarga saya dan masih keluarga sampai napas terakhir di dunia ini.
